AFTERCARE DO'S & DON'TS

  • Follow the aftercare instructions provided at your appointment. If you have any followup questions, email me.

  • Treat your new tattoo gently.

  • If applied at your appointment, keep your clear bandage/tattoo film on for 3-5 days. Take it off early if there are signs of an allergic reaction to the adhesive.

  • Do not exercise or engage in activities that cause excessive sweating while wearing your clear bandage.

  • Take your clear bandage off in a warm shower with clean hands. Do not peel it off “dry.”

  • Wash your tattoo with an antibacterial soap (such as Dial Gold.)

  • Do not use a washcloth or loofah when washing your tattoo. Pat your tattoo dry with a clean paper towel.

  • Always ensure your tattoo is completely dry before applying moisturizer. Applying moisturizer to a wet tattoo will encourage unnecessary scabbing.

  • When applying any type of moisturizer, rub it all the way into the skin. There should not be a shiny layer of moisturizer sitting on top of the skin.

  • Wash your tattoo and apply moisturizer about 3 times a day, or anytime it touches a dirty surface, for the first 2 weeks of healing.

  • No picking or scratching your tattoo as it heals.

  • Leave scabs on as long as they want to linger. Picking scabs off prematurely can pull pigment & possibly cause scarring.

  • No medicated, fragranced or textured (exfoliating) cleansers or moisturizers.

  • No swimming or soaking your new tattoo for 2 weeks. It should only be contacting water when it is being washed with clean running water. If you are using tattoo film, please do shower while it is on, just don't let it soak in water.

  • No direct sunlight for 2 weeks.

  • No clothing which will cause friction directly on the healing tattoo.

  • Extra precautions should be taken to protect a new tattoo when entering an environment with a high level of germs & bacteria.

  • Don’t forget that your new tattoo is an open wound and is vulnerable to outside germs & bacteria which can cause infection.

  • Make sure you take the time to sanitize your cleaning area! Sink, handles, and anything else you may have touched or splashed.

  • If you have any questions or concerns about how your tattoo has healed, send me a healed pic after 2 weeks to a month.
